This research initiative is supported by Intellus, the Association for Health Insights and Analytics. The research project is dedicated to harnessing the power of health literacy in marketing research to improve cardiovascular disease patient outcomes. It is executed as part of an effort to improve healthcare practitioner communication with limited English proficiency patients with cardiovascular disease.

The research has been executed with Emergency Department healthcare practitioners in low, medium and high SDOH (Social Determinants of Health) counties in the USA, using, e.g., Federal Poverty Level percentages by county as segmentation drivers.

Segmedica’s Dr. Barbara Haimowitz will be presenting HealthVoiceTM: Digging Deeper Into The Patient – Doctor Dialogue at the Intellus Worldwide Institute, in Boston Setember 27th.
The dialogue between the healthcare provider and patient is among the most critical interactions in the patient journey. It is an immediate opportunity for meaningful dialogue including explanation; diagnosis; listening; understanding the patient’s perspective; answering questions; providing informed medical advice; making treatment decisions; and preparing the patient for next steps. The quality of this dialogue is central to effective treatment decisions and outcomes as well as patient satisfaction. An effective dialogue shows that the HCP is clear and believable in their analysis of the patient’s concerns, giving reasons the patient should stay on the current path or change to another. When a patient feels the HCP has their best interest in mind, they will trust them in subsequent steps. If this sense of trust is absent, the patient is less likely to come to a consensus with the HCP or be compliant with treatment recommendations. Traditional market research techniques capture information in a setting far removed from the office visit. The authenticity of the dialogue cannot be captured through post-appointment interviews because the critical moment has long passed. Pharmaceutical companies can be more effective in designing communications if they understand both the content as well as the texture (e.g., emotions) of patient visits. Pharmaceutical companies engage Segmedica, a division of Research America Inc., to help them provide a window into intimate physician-patient discussions, with the goal to understand the deeper content and behavioral interaction between HCP and patient. Generally, multiple analytical techniques are employed. Segmedica has been selected to present at the 2021 Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo™ (FNCE®). The presentation, Cart to Counter: Leveraging Personality Data and Technology to Boost the Grocery Experience, is scheduled for Sunday, October 17th at 11:30AM – 12:30PM CT.
We are what we eat but are we how we shop? The intersection between data, technology tools, and behavior change is a crucial crossroad. Much has been written about genetics, culture, and family in shaping dietary habits. Little has been said about personality, the most fundamental driver of behavior. In fact, personality shapes worldview, unconscious behavioral drivers, and the behaviors themselves. This session begins with a description of basic personality assessment and the results of research into dietary behaviors, leading into a discussion of how this data can be leveraged to impact the quality and nutrition of foods placed in the grocery shopping cart.
Examples of how grocery retailers are using consumer and behavioral data, artificial intelligence, and other technologies to impact shopper purchases, including of healthier foods, will be presented as well as the impact on nutrition guidance and counseling.
