Rex Repass and the Segmedica teams have led market research and consumer insights engagements for some of the leading corporations in the world including Walgreens, GlaxoSmithKline, Honda, Cigna, Facebook, Amazon, and Hilton Hotels. Since joining Research America in 2016, the company has grown organically and through acquisition. In 2019, Research America was named one of the Top 50 market research firms in the U.S. based on annual revenue by the GreenBook Research Industry Trends Report (GRIT).
Rex is a life-long entrepreneur. Companies he has led have been named to Inc. magazine’s annual list of the fastest growing, privately-held companies in America three times. He has been a principal and owner in three market research firms during his career.
In the early 1980s, Rex partnered with Charles Ryan to form Ryan-Repass Research Inc., the first market research firm in West Virginia. In 1988 Rex divested his interest in Ryan-Repass and joined MarketVision Research in Cincinnati as Vice President and shareholder and later was promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. His primary client in his early days with MarketVision was Procter & Gamble, the largest advertiser and market researcher in the world. During Rex’s 13 years with MarketVision the company increased revenue by nearly 400 percent.
In 2001, Rex sold his interest in MarketVision and later incorporated R.L. Repass & Partners in Cincinnati. By 2010, the company was listed as one of the Top 25 research firms in Cincinnati, and in 2015 and 2016 was ranked by Inc. as one of fastest growing private companies in America; and by the Cincinnati Business Courier as one of the 55 fastest growing companies in the region. In September of 2016, Rex sold his company to Research America and was named President of the merged organizations.
Rex received an undergraduate degree from Marshall University, and in 2017 was named a Distinguished Alumnus of Marshall’s College of Arts and Media. He is on the Advisory Board of Marshall’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation. Rex also received a Master of Science degree from the University of Tennessee, with an academic focus on public opinion and advertising research methods. He currently serves as Chairman of UT’s College of Communication and Information Board of Visitors.
